Women Who Rock: Laura Schoch
By now, dear reader, you are coming to understand that I like a woman with gumption, a little moxie, and a whole lot of get-up-and-go. Which is convenient because it’s the perfect way to describe this week’s Woman Who Rocks. Meet my friend Laura Schoch. I love Laura’s story so much because she is on the journey. She’s always seeking the next challenge. She’s always looking to improve. And, she’s not afraid to define her own happiness. How great is that!? Laura successfully climbed the corporate ladder at AT&T and then had the courage to quit so that she could open her North Shore fashion boutique. This woman has an amazing eye for style and her shop was the place to go for years.
Today, Laura works with Rodan + Fields which gives her time to dedicate to her side projects such as her stunning jewelry design business (Her Follow Your Arrows collection is lovely,) and her lifestyle blog laurastyle.com.
Laura is a hoot – so I thought I would ask her the 5 questions we always ask and learn more about her financial style and what makes her feel fabulous.
What makes you feel confident: in your closet?
Tons of black tops! I’m always in a hurry to get dressed- I grab a basic black top and kick it up with some fab jewelry!
What makes you feel confident: in your financial portfolio?
It’s diverse. Chanel, Prada and Gucci! Oh wait, you mean my OTHER investments… also diverse. I think that’s key – you just don’t know what’s going to happen in the market to mess with your portfolio.
At what age did you start planning for your financial independence?
My Dad bought me stock when I was very young. I loved watching it grow
(back then in the newspaper!)
What was good about starting to save when you did?
I don’t have to worry about my future and I can retire someday – HA! I’ll never retire! But what’s important is that I get to work by choice because I love it…and not because I have to.
How would you define your saving style?
I’m not a great saver (my husband can tell you a lot more on this topic) I work hard and I like to enjoy life so I tend to spend on fun! I save enough.
What financial goals are you currently working on?
I’m working on building a residual income stream through my business with Rodan+Fields. At age 50 I am building a base of business that will take me through retirement and that I can pass on to my kids. No other part time job could provide that for me.
What makes you feel rich? (It might not be money!)
My kids! They are happy and healthy and that’s all that matters. It’s taken me a long time to realize that.
